According to statistics, the crime rate for Darlington is on the rise and so are the tax dollars budgeted for that department. Have we looked at ways to reduce spending? Do we have enough officers to cover the county? Are our first responders paid enough? Is the equipment sufficient to protect our officers? Why is the response time so long? Are deputies and EMS spread too thin to cover the distance between calls? Is the 9-1-1 process proficient & equipment sufficient enough to get help on the way quickly?
Time is critical. We cannot create more time, but there are numerous ways to create revenue and reduce costs. It's TIME to get creative with our spending habits and not just hit the easy button to 'create' more money by raising taxes. Darlington (Districts 1 & 2) should be in better shape compared to our tax base. Where is ALL the money going? Why are we 'just getting by'? Because there are NO EFFORTS to bring true value for the cost of living and there's no bang for the buck! It's time to spend wisely and save - just like you do!
"Pearl of the Pee Dee" was not some catchy phrase that meant nothing. There was a time when Darlington was progressive and growing. It's time to re-evaluate some of those best practices and study other thriving small towns to devise workable solutions for today's world and boost our economy. Doing so will bring a renewed spirit of pride in our community which will foster habits of supporting local merchants of all kinds & will lead to more private sector investments in areas that need it most - making Darlington very desirable!
