~ Dear Darlington, home for of all my days. You’ve made dreams come true, healed a couple of broken hearts, shared love and loss, victory and failure, disappointment and so much joy within your bounds – and these are the many reasons my heart is endeared to you. It's been perfect timing having grown up during your best days – giving me a dose of your good-natured people and embracing me in a bit of your great history while helping me make my own memories. Today, plans of leaders long ago have been neglected, history crumbling in the open right before our eyes. I remember when the streets were clean – in town and on the outskirts. I remember being able to play outside in my yard and even safely roam many blocks away from home. I remember industry booming and there being jobs for people. I remember people taking pride in their yards and guarding their tempers. I remember when you greeted each other with a smile, shook hands and gave hugs – having the best interest of others at heart – the glory days - bronzed and painted, fresh and full of hope. You’ve been like training wheels for many, some whom have left and never looked back, providing just the right balance of small town goodness for all to grow and become ‘who we are’ no matter where we landed.
My own set of training wheels are long gone, but my heart is still the same. You helped me build strong values with a deep desire to see you prosper. It's time to give a little of me back to you. It’s time for unity! It's time to bridge the gap and bring the efforts of our Mayor and City Council together with County Council to make a true, measurable difference in the place we call home. Everything is better when people work together. Ever wonder how Hartsville seems to have it all – well, the answer is simple – collaborative efforts! Shared visions of the same goals and objectives – that’s what I want to see for you, Darlington District #1, the portion of our county that encompasses much of our city footprint and for the areas that lay in the fringes and always seems to be overlooked! Darlington, you're absolutely not too small to have it all!
~ Officially Yours, District #1, Angie
